Michael Joseph Carter was born on December 15, 1957 in Washington D.C.. He is the youngest of seven children born to Dorothy Mae Carter and the late Mack Lomax Carter. He was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, located at 53rd & Call Place, S.E., where he was baptized.

Michael received his education from the District of Columbia public school system. He graduated from H.D. Woodson High School in 1976 and then attended the University of the District of Columbia.

Michael began his career as a correctional officer for Prince George's County Department of Corrections in 1981. He often says that working in corrections has helped him to deal with a variety of people from various backgrounds.

On May 16, 1981 he married Cynthia Theresa Ford and from that union they begat two daughters, Mia' Syreeta and Kimberly Marie.

Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1984 in the home of a friend. From that very moment his life was never the same.

He continued his fellowship as a member of St. John's Baptist Church. He subsequently became a member of The National Church of God where he furthered his religious education by attending the Ministerial Internship Program and served as a staff Minister and the Director of Prison Ministries Out Reach Program. He later became a member and an Elder at Reach Out for Life Christian Center.

Pastor Carter knew that God had called him to pastor. He often told his mother; if I have to, I will preach to those on the corner. The question was never are you called only when will you answer.

Upon answering the call on August of 2002, he became the Founder and Pastor of The Living Word Christian Ministries, Inc.

Pastor Michael J. Carter is a man of purpose. He is God called and ordained, with a heart to cause people to be impacted by the kingdom of God.
